Over the past 6 years AAS produced more than 19 Junior
Naturalist Outdoor Adventure Camps in 8 different locations. Since 2004 more
than 750 campers have learned how to assess and manage risk while playing in the
great outdoors. We have conducted more than 114 hours of conservation education
and completed environmental enhancement projects. Many campers return year after
year which we consider a testament to our high standards and the quality of our
product. It gives us enormous satisfaction to see our returning campers advance
and evolve their skill sets and we realized it was essential to further expand
our programs, by building on our same foundation of principles established
within our Junior Naturalist Outdoor Adventure Camps.
"We
knew that the JNOAC would be a great adventure for our children but, we had know
idea the lasting impression it would have on them." Robert Knipple. Office of
Outreach & Professional Services, University
of Pittsburgh,
Johnstown.
In the summer of 2009 AAS
offered the first Junior Adventure Racing Camp which we produced with great
success, and are elated to be offering another Adventure Racing Camp for 2010 at
pristine Camp Harmony, PA. In addition, we are excited to be
producing our first Junior Triathlon Camp at beautiful
University
of Pittsburg at Johnstown, PA.
Our goal is to cultivate a love for adventure sports in the outdoors, which
supports a healthy life style for our Junior Adventure Racers and Tri-athletes.
Students will be encouraged to stay within their own comfort zone while
exploring new challenges. Ultimately, we want to improve their self confidence
while helping them to be a more well rounded person. We want them to be unafraid
of failure..... and to learn to take time to make good decisions.
"I
cannot express easily how fantastic the JNOAC was for our children. I fully
indorse this educational experience for all children." Joe Schwarts. Indiana,
PA.
Our instructors are Swift Water Rescue certified,
CPR certified, Wilderness First Aid and Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) certified.
In addition we have certified Rappel Masters, Lifeguards, Leave No Trace
trainers, an Eagle Scout, and a Mountaineering Instructor on staff. We encourage
you to look at our current instructor profiles to become more acquainted with
our staff.
"The staff was
very knowledgeable & so good with the kids-made my shy daughter much more
confident." Lyn Potalivo. Erie, PA.
